Novembers Doom – Into Night’s Requiem Infernal(2010)

Seventh full album for death/doom progsters Novembers Doom, and second after the exemplar The Pale Haunt Departure which firmly established the band in the progressive metal scene. And “established” is a focal word when describing the music in Into Night’s Requiem Infernal. It is the music of a band that has its own sound and style, and its own vision. This album showcases vintage keyboard work, warm 12 string acoustic guitars and electric guitar, clean bass lines and excellent drumming.

According to the band, this disc’s inception occurred in 2007, when they were invited to perform the Bach Fest in Leipzig, Germany. Apparently, the response from Johann Sebastian’s modern devotees was so strong, the band decided to commit their recordings to disc, which also just happens to be one of their strongest albums in recent years.

The idea of marrying electronics to Bach’s work is certainly not an original one. Wendy Carlos’ seminal 1[......]
